I hope nobody’s missed that it’s La Mercè this week! The Mercè is the city’s superparty, and you shouldn’t miss a thing! When I first arrived in Barcelona four years ago it was the Merce, and I couldn’t believe all the things that were going on everywhere. First of all you should check out the concerts. There are the concerts that are within the Merce itself, and then the music festival BAM that is also arranged simultaneously. The concerts take place all over the city, in the plazas everywhere. There are parades with the Giant Heads (yes, it’s exactly what it sounds), the Correfocs (people, running, fire, that sums it up), the fireworks competition by the beach, the Castellers (human towers) and all the museums that are open of course. There are artesans selling their handicrafts, and all kinds of organizations promoting their ideas. My absolute favourite is the Wine and Cava tasting at Moll de Fusta, which goes on for three days. You get to try great wines from all over Catalunya, and also have a bite to eat if you feel like it.
